Breaking the Barrier of Straight A's

Below is Jen’s story on academic success in high school:

Parental pressure on academic success is something a lot of students experience. In Jen’s case, the expectation of getting straight A’s began to negatively impact her. She struggled with the stress of maintaining A’s and it added pressure to where she would be nervous to check grades, tests, and quizzes. Jen would feel worried about the impact of her grades and what her parents would think. However, she began to change this mindset by realizing and reminding herself that not having straight A’s is perfectly fine and won’t hurt her in the long run. Jen has actually grown from her past mindset by getting a couple of B’s. She knew it was almost impossible to keep up this expectation and she was constantly bringing herself down over grades, and by accepting her grades she feels her mindset is better than before.

Jen’s tip of advice for those who feel the same way is “to not worry about it so much since it adds more unneeded stress to yourself.”

Jen is a student at Lowell High School and she enjoys learning foreign languages. In her free time, she likes hanging out with friends and shopping.
